南陽高校に外国語指導助手（ALT)として勤務されている英国出身のジョシュ・シェパードさんから寄稿してもらいました。

              There are many beautiful things that happen during Autumn time, such as the changing of the leaves(葉), the gentle cooling of the hot summer weather, and delicious foods coming into season especially in Yamagata where they are particularly good.

However, for me,Autumn usually means Halloween! In foreign countries we always love dressing up and going to Halloween parties with our friends, as well as pumpkin carving(彫り物). This is something they everyone does from a young age.

There is one more thing that I love also, and that is the date of November 5^th.This is a special holiday in the U.K. ,where we celebrate(祝う)f by having huge巨大な bonfires焚き火, many fireworks and having great food like potatoes baked inside our ｆires焚き火, toasted marshmallows, candy apples and spicy mulled甘みや香料を加え加熱した wine and chiliトウガラシ. It’s one of the things I missさびしく思う most about my country in this season and I want to bring it to Yamagata one day for everyone to share together.

秋になると美しいものがたくさんあります。たとえば紅葉、暑い夏が涼しくなり、そして食の山形ではとりわけおいしい食べ物がたけなわです。

　でも、私には秋といえばハロウィーンです。諸外国では、かぼちゃの彫り物もそうですが、いつもドレスアップして友人たちとパーティーに出かけることがとても好きです。こうしたものは若い頃からみんなしていることです。

　もうひとつ好きなものは11月5日の日です。このイギリスで特別の休日を祝うのは、火を焚いたり、花火をあげたり、焚き火で焼き芋にしたり、マシュマロを炙ったり、りんごの飴菓子、ピリ辛風味のワインやトウガラシを味わいます。いつか山形でみなさんが共有できるような、この時期母国イギリスの最も懐かしいもののひとつです。
